DAD TIP: Amazon Echo Dot is great for listening to audiobooks for kids

When my spouse ordered an Echo Dot for Lake, I thought it was a bad idea.  I was worried it was going to turn into another technology that would suck my child’s brains out like a tablet.  But I was pleasantly surprised with how much she likes audio books and how it encourages correct pronunciation (a non-trivial matter when your child needs speech therapy). #amazon #amazonechodot2 #dadsreadtoo #dadsparenttoo #dadswhoparent

That time the birds built a nest in front of our kitchen window

One day while I was teleworking in the basement, Mallory excitedly screamed "I can't believe it!"    Some birds had made a nest and were raising chicks in the tree in front of our kitchen window.  We watched them grow over a few weeks until they were finally adventurous enough to hop out of the nest.   Here is one perched on a different tree close to the nest. DADS SEW: unicorn horn socks

DADS SEW: Ejler has been asking me to repair these unicorn socks for a while.  I finally figured out a way to do it.  1. scrap material (old chino pants) 2. trace and cut out circle with tab for attachment (add random green leaves from table) 3. cut slit in the circle and tightly twist into horn 4. sew up the seam, and from the top - sew around the horn making alternating stitches outside and inside the horn. 5. use the tab for attachment
